Hey Reader,
What does it mean to really "go with the flow"? Well, I have a story about that to illustrate this point in real life...
When I decided to create the School of Moxie podcast and turn the movie & television analogies into podcast content, I made some strategic choices. One of them was to double down on some pre-existing SEO that was irrefutably strong.
I chose the television series "The Last of Us" not only because it is fantastic TV, but also because the SEO behind both the show and the video game that came before it means less leg work for me. All I would have to do is tap into the existing web traffic. Instead of trying to create volume and magic out of thin air, a pro tip for you to is to tap into pre-existing traffic... it integrates you into the existing discussion almost like you've always been there.
But one of the other strategic decisions was around the buzz the show was getting for Emmy nominations. It did get nominated by a helluva lot... 24 in total. With a lot of extra bonus buzz thanks to the series headlining actor, Pedro Pascal.
Originally the Emmy Awards would have aired live on network television this Monday, September 18th. But then Hollywood went on strike. So the awards were postponed. Now, I had planned on premiering the podcast at the end of August to start generating some content and traffic. When the Emmys aired and people were searching for all things about "The Last of Us," our little podcast-that-could ๐ would show up in the mix and generate some organically boosted traffic.
But the Emmys were postponed until January (which may or may not happen based on the progression of the strikes and union negotiations), but that didn't mean that the podcast release date should change. Quite the contrary.
One of the things I'm becoming increasingly adamant about is building entrepreneurial resilience from the lessons of media production. In media, you are always in service of your release date.
So... have you thought about what your release date is for the thing you are currently shipping? Let's say it's a newsletter and you send it every Tuesday. How dedicated are you to that release date? Do you ship it or do you let your audience get used to tuning out your content?
Q4 is basically here now and it's a great time to start working on being in service of your release dates. I used to make movies for a living and they take years to make. The only reason movie studios know how long it takes to make a movie is because they have shipped a whole lot of them before.
So, when you're figuring out what your time frame is for producing content, the best course of action is to ship your content! As you ship it, you'll quickly gauge just how much lead time you actually need for your content, and you can get better at shipping your content on time.
When you're confident on honoring your release dates, you can then have extra bandwidth left over to think about crafty strategies like the way I tapped into the SEO for The Last of Us. If I had waited to ship the podcast until January, I would not be able to take advantage of *any* extra SEO from the marketplace.
Ship it, ship it, ship it!

Ready to put on your CEO pants this week? We're talking about how to become the ultimate super guest... and get invited into juicy spaces in the coming year as a result. In this week's video I breakdown for you some major hallmarks of incredible guests. It could be on a podcast (this was definitely inspired by all of the podcasting action around here lately) but it could also be for things like summits or contributing a passive product in a bundle offer... the ways to be a guest are numerous.
โThe point is that being a great guest and getting lots of lead gen from your guesting role is not the result of magic. It's a very active thing to participate in and it impacts your brand and reputation more than you may realize. As a regular host of all kinds of lead gen experiments, I can tell you that your systems (or lack thereof) show up big time when you say "yes" to being a guest! Come check out what I mean by that in the video.
๐ Here's what I am inviting you to take action on this week:
โ
Yes, really! ๐ค
Well, technically, you can get whatever you want at Starbucks ๐ and here's how you can do it:
Here's what has been popping up on Apple Podcasts and I am so grateful for the reviews! ๐ฅฐ
P.S. - You can also do this on YouTube. Show me a screenshot of your account subscription to my channel and click the thumbs up on your favorite podcast episode. Leave a comment on that episode telling me what you learned from it or what you like about the show. Send me the screenshot and I'll send you a code for Starbucks!
Would you like to get the benefit of the 12 month Incubator without the time commitment? ๐ Now that the Incubator is closed for enrollment, the templates that members have access to will be released next week! You can get the announcement for them with a special insiders-only bonus & discount.
To get the early bird announcement, you can opt-in through this link and you'll receive the special bonus & discount.
So, what are the systems templates? Well, inside the 12 month Incubator, we worked deeply inside each person's business to create more energy and space. Through the use of systems, you can make this happen also.
Here is what the index of templates looks like when you receive them:
The templates each person got in the Incubator helped address key systems in business that makes it easier to and faster to work with the data. This allows you to make better business decisions year round. You have the option to use the original Google Sheets version or the new Notion templates (with videos to show you how to start using Notion if you're new to it).
These templates include inventory for your hardware, software, your online accounts, your programs & memberships, and more. Can't remember how to access that cloud account with the beautiful graphics? It's in your inventory. Haven't fully utilized the programs you've purchased? Keep track of them in your inventory.
Over the years we also added in data tracking... and the magic of these templates is that the math is done for you! All you have to do is plug in the numbers. ๐ค Instead of feeling overwhelmed by *how* to collect data and make data-based decisions, these templates give you tidy little boxes to enter the numbers each month for everything from how many people are subscribing and interacting with your content... all the way to what kind of money is coming in and going out of your business.
๐ If you're working with a coach right now, having these templates enables you to show up for your appointments like a CEO and dig immediately into real actions that will move the needle on revenue generating activities.
Listen, I love a good marketing strategy, but all the catchy programs out there won't do you much good if you don't have your systems in order. These templates will make your life so much easier... and you'll get way more ROI from your investments in your business.
