[Sensible Woo] Business lessons from the gaming world ๐ŸŽง

Hey Reader,

๐Ÿ“ This is a special message, so you don't need to unsubscribe from your weekly updates. If you don't want to hear about podcast news from Sensible Woo, click here to silence anything else about this... and you'll still get your Tarot reading on Saturday!

Time to dive in... all the way in!

I swear I can hear earbuds and headphones crackling in the air. I'm incredibly humbled by the response so far to this podcast because I have a tiny list and a very modest social following. But we have some folks who have latched onto this podcast like cordyceps on a fresh human. ๐Ÿ„

Today you're going to *love* the way we ease into this, so you still have time to watch the pilot episode titled "When You're Lost in the Darkness." Get your Kleenex handy because you're about to be emotionally gutted from the get-go. But where this all came from is a video game, so we have an expert joining us to explain all of it and I'm so glad Ashlan was able to be a part of this podcast.

Originally I didn't think she would have the time due to a multi-state household move, but once a fan of The Last of Us... Well, you're about to join us in the clubhouse this week. ๐Ÿค“ Ashlan dropped some mega mic drop moments about allocating your precious resources and activating a gamer's mentality when approaching complex business problems with unknown outcomes.

With intriguing anecdotes and thought-provoking observations, Mary and Ashlan explore the profound impact of storytelling and gameplay mechanics on personal growth and business strategy.

Tune in to level up your entrepreneurial journey with lessons from "The Last of Us."

Quote from the episode

One of the things that I have learned in journeying in life is that not everybody stays with you. Sometimes, for whatever reason, there will be people who enter and exit in your life. There are some very, very important stories and pieces that form your identity. But they might not stay with you forever and that is totally okay.

Discussed in this episode

  • The Covid-10 pandemic transformed all of us in both difficult ways and very fruitful ways that helped our businesses grow.
  • How playing video games teaches you problem solving skills.
  • How to engage with the television series based on the video game with the same benefits.
  • Allocating resources is something you can practice in a fictional scenario, which gives you more resilience when you do it in real life.
  • Youโ€™re going to fail, whether itโ€™s dying in a video game or simply ending up down a dead end in business, but those experiences are meant to teach us valuable lessons for the next round.
  • You canโ€™t stand still and engaging with a game or TV series can help you take a small action that has little risk or investment.
  • There are seasons for all things and some things or people are not meant to last forever in your journey.
